With the invention of computers we as a society have gotten even more quite. We used to greet each other in the streets with a smile and a hello but now people are too occupied with their own lives to worry about making someone else’s day.
My way of beating this trend is the "Secret Soda", I love to find people when I am getting a refill of my favorite beverage at the local gas station, that are getting refills as well and I sneak around and pay for their refill without letting anyone know who did it. You should see the puzzled faces, Christmas all year around!
I once was in a holiday gas station after a tough day of school, a mother with three little cranky kids was in the store. The mother was just getting a large drink to share with her kids, the kids were asking and begging for slushies of their own I knew the mom couldn't afford it because of the way she was talking to her kids.
I asked her if it was ok if I purchased the drinks and she was very happy. I remember as a kid what it was like not to be able to afford things like that. On a more personal note: My high school reunion is coming up and I have decided if my fellow students that I went to school with don’t want to talk to me in person when they see me in town, then why should I want to spend time with them in an environment where you have to act fake to try to impress these people.
I have impressed the most important people in my life my family and my true friends. With true friends you do not have to impress them anymore because they already know how crazy you can be and they love you anyway! I have also realized that Face book is fun but it is very sad because it is easier to face book your “friends” then to go make real connections with your friends and the world around you. This can be a real lonely life.
Hope you make good connections!
HUGS!
